Maggie has been professionally offering training and behavior services for over 18 years. Her first internship out of college was working in animal rescue and it was there she found her passion for behavior work. Maggie served as District Manager of Training and Boarding for a nationally recognized training program after completing several internships, managing 27 training facilities and daycare facilities where she helped shape the program to use effective, science based methods of training. She has worked on national level projects partnering with Human Animal Support Services and Maddie's Fund working on redefining canine bite scales and forensics, improved behavior protocols for sheltered behavior animals, redefining enrichment and training protocol standards of care and developing effective behavior monitoring methods for behavior, managed medically and through training. Other projects include behavior case study, study design and research on shelter animal engagement and in-kennel behavior, in-shelter testing behavior protocols for dogs and cats and behavior support services.
Maggie is a Knowledge Assessed Certified Trainer with the Certification Counsel of Professional Dog Trainers, a professional member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, an FSDS Service Dog Trainer and Evaluator, a certified Fear-Free Professional and is currently enrolled for her CBCC certification in the spring, one of the most advanced animal behavior certifications that can be earned in her field.
Unfortunately dog training is a completely unregulated field and does not require additional education or training. The Behavior Gurus fully supports organizations such as IAABC, CCPDT and APDT in lobbying and establishing stricter laws and regulations on education, certification and best practices. Our behavior interns serve as assistants and are typically ethology students or recent graduates who are committed to ethically appropriate, science based practices.
Our trainers are experienced working with canines, felines, birds and livestock in advanced training and behavioral modification.
